Great Sheets Wins Great New Brunswick Exporter Award

Andreanne International Inc. based in Bouctouche, New Brunswick receives 2006 New Brunswick Export Achievement Award.

Andreanne International Inc. based in Bouctouche, New Brunswick was announced as a 2006 New Brunswick Export Achievement Award Winner.

The awards were handed out at a ceremony on May 24th in Fredericton to three New Brunswick companies. The export achievement awards recognize outstanding performance in export and trade based on sales, innovation, and unique solutions to international challenges.

Congraulations to this wonderful New Brunswick success story. I love this product because it represents an example of a small business that can find a niche in the marketplace and fill it. It is what New Brunswick needs several hundred more of, if we are to continue to grow New Brunswick successfully as an economy.

I love the product and sleep on these type of sheets in the winter in my Pointe du Chene cottage home, where the wind comes in off Shediac Bay and challenges the insulation of my cottage walls in the winter nights. These sheets are thin and fantastic as light weight insulating sheets.

Great product. Great news. Find them and buy them. They are available in Co-op stores ( natch), and perhaps in leading retailers now. Will get a localintheknow on that story and post a list where you can buy these fantastic sheets for your bed.

Hats off to the company and it's hard working founders. The award recipients are recognized under three categories:

  • total sales under $5,000,000,
  • total sales between $5,000,000 and,
  • $25,000,000 and total sales over $25,000,000.
Andreanne International was honoured with the Export Development Canada award for sales under $5,000,000. This award was presented by Jeff MacArthur of Export Development Canada to Eric Lemay President of Andreanne International Inc.

Other award recipients included Precision Metal Works Ltd. for total sales between $5,000,000 and $25,000,000 and ADI Systems Inc. for total sales over $25,000,000.

Since 1987, Andreanne has been producing their premiere product Brunswick Sheets TM. This family owned and operated business has continually expanded and created a state-of-the art automated production facility employing twenty-three people.

Andreanne International Inc. has extended the reach of Brunswick Sheets to not only include Canada, the United States and New Zealand but mostly recently the United Kingdom.

The awards are a joint venture between the Province of New Brunswick and the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters. The achievement awards give recognition to the important role manufacturers and exporters play in the provincial economy.

Wheeler Blvd, Riverview Bridge, and Dieppe Connectors-2006 Funding Announced

This just in from Ottawa regarding the long anticipated Federal funding of Moncton's Big Dig to extend the access highway from the Riverview-Moncton Bridge as well as the connections to Dieppe, have been announced by the Harper Government.

I know three Mayors, that despite their own personal political affiliations are breathing easier and sleeping sounder tonight as a result of this announcement. Here's what the confirmation of funding accomplishes. Here's the announcement.

THE GREATER MONCTON AREA BYBASS PROJECTS:
Agreement signed for urban bypass projects in Greater Moncton
The Greater Moncton Area's retail, distribution and manufacturing sectors are the basis of further economic growth and rely on efficient free flowing highway links to New Brunswick's arterial highway system.

The bypass construction projects are designed to provide access-controlled alternative routes to existing heavily used and congested urban area streets, improving the efficiency and safety of the Greater Moncton Area municipal transportation network, and support transport-dependent businesses. Contracted work includes:
  • Moncton: The Moncton bypass project involves the extension of Vaughan Harvey and Assomption boulevards to connect with the new bridge across the Petitcodiac River to Riverview. These connections will allow traffic to bypass a portion of Main Street as well as several other congested downtown streets providing better access to several arterial routes throughout the city.
  • Dieppe: The Dieppe bypass project will extend Dieppe Boulevard from Englehart Street to Melanson Road and continue the development of the Dieppe Industrial Park by allowing traffic to bypass the heavily congested Champlain/Acadie intersection and more easily access Route 15 and Route 2.
  • Riverview: The Riverview bypass project will connect Riverview with the south side of the new bridge (across the Petitcodiac River) and provide a bypass around the southern portion of the Town that will connect to Findlay Boulevard and the Petitcodiac River Causeway.

Travellers in the Greater Moncton Area will be safer and traffic congestion will be reduced thanks to investments by all three levels of government for the construction of urban bypasses located in Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview.

The governments of Canada and New Brunswick will each contribute up to$11.5 million for the completion of the three projects. The municipalities of Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview are also contributing to these projects.

The signing of the funding agreement was announced today by the Honorable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Regional Minister for New Brunswick, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Bernard Lord,Premier of New Brunswick, New Brunswick Transportation Minister, the Honourable Paul Robichaud, together with the Moncton Mayor Lorne Mitton,Dieppe Mayor Achille Maillet and Riverview Mayor Clarence Sweetland.

"The Greater Moncton Area transportation corridor is one of New Brunswick's busiest travelling routes and provides direct access to the area as well as nearby communities", said Minister Thompson.

"This Government is committed to improve the quality of life of the residents of New Brunswick. This contribution agreement means safer travel, less trucks on city streets and less time spent in traffic."

"The Province of New Brunswick is pleased to work with the Government of Canada and the municipalities to further the transportation objectives of the Greater Moncton area and bring greater prosperity to the region," said Premier Bernard Lord. "These new bypasses, in combination with the Gunningsville Bridge, will fundamentally change our communities for the better."

The bypass construction projects will support businesses that are dependent on effective transportation in and around Moncton.

"The City of Moncton is extremely pleased to see the Greater Moncton Area corridor project move forward. I want to sincerely thank the governments of Canada and New Brunswick for their commitment and generous financial contribution, and for recognizing the need for such an important project for a growing region like Greater Moncton," commented Moncton Mayor Lorne Mitton.

"Our communities will benefit from this key piece of infrastructure in many areas including economic development, the environment, an improved flow of traffic, and public safety."

"The construction of the Dieppe Boulevard will alleviate some of our traffic concerns as well as provide new lands for development," Dieppe Mayor Achille Maillet said. "We need this new access because of our rapid population growth."

"The new East/West Corridor is strategically important to the Town of Riverview," said Mayor Clarence Sweetland. "The roadway will open up land for future development and improve traffic flows. By linking into the new Gunningsville Bridge, this phase of the East/West Corridor will give Riverview residents and businesses direct and easy access into Moncton and Dieppe. It will help us to continue to make Riverview a great place to grow!"

The federal contribution towards these three projects comes from the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund, which supports large-scale projects of major national and regional significance, in areas that are vital to sustaining economic growth and supporting an enhanced quality of life for Canadians.

The Government of Canada's 2006 Federal Budget committed an unprecedented$16.5 billion over the next four years for provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure, including an additional $2 billion for the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund.

Moncton's PropertyGuys.com to Join Team Atlantic Canada on Florida Trade Mission

There is an interesting company picking its way out of the pack in Moncton and PropertyGuys is the name.

I happened on their web site the other day and the breadth of their reach in franchises is considerable. Then this came in from the press release central regarding their decision to go sell their expertise to Florida's Early Bird Specialist's who want to sell their own real estate with a guiding hand.

This company also just recently brought their franchisees into a three day bash at the Hotel Beausejour and this caught my eye, because it is the core of why we need to develop home town, home made, home owned companies in this community. All those people who have been recruited and have drank the PropertyGuys Kool Aid and are true believers came to Mecca Moncton for their annual sales award and training sessions.

This is the clout of building an idea and selling it across the country and inviting everyone that is a stakeholder home for the convention. You can see the award winners coverage by clicking on local photographer and LocalintheKnow Blogger Nick Gaines, who got the gig to take the company's photo record of the event.

There ought to be some kind of common sense award for this company.

Here's what they are doing next.

From Moncton, ProperyGuys will join fifteen New Brunswick companies on next month's Atlantic Canada trade mission to Florida, considered by many as the Gateway to the Americas.

A total of 47 companies and organizations are registered for the May 14-18 mission to Miami and Orlando, Florida, with the New Brunswick contingent to be led by Premier Bernard Lord on his first official mission to that state.

Lord said New Brunswick is Canada's "most trade-active province, and it will take advantage of the Team Canada Atlantic model to generate diverse leads for business.

"We are continually looking at new ways in which to grow the province's exports, which reached a record $10 billion in 2005," he said.

Information released by the provincial government said 11 previous Team Atlantic missions to U.S. points helped 329 Atlantic Canadian entrepreneurs meet with more than 2,750 buyers, agents and business owners from across the U.S. resulting in export sales totalling more than $36 billion.

"It's all part of building a strong, united Canada - one that reaches its true potential. And nowhere is that potential more important than in efforts to assist Atlantic Canadian exporters," Peter G. MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, said.

Companies taking part in the trade mission to Florida are in the areas of advanced manufacturing, agri-food and seafood, building and construction products, consumer products, information-communications technology, life sciences and ocean industries.

Included in the 15 New Brunswick companies participating in the trade mission is Moncton based PropertyGuys.com of Moncton. Established in 1998, PropertyGuys.com Inc. is Canada’s leading private sale, real estate marketing company with over 65 licensed franchise units

. The company is a member of the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) and has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Most Successful Canadian Franchise systems. The PropertyGuys.com website receives over 20 million hits a month and helps connect home buyers and sellers directly, one on one, thus eliminating the high cost of a middleman.
