Ver. 2.0 Local in the Know

A new kind of community portal is online this week in Moncton.

Local's Choice is the new home page for moncton.Localintheknow.com

It is designed to tell you at a glance about the activities and events as well as people that are making Moncton, and the sister communities surrounding the booming southeastern New Brunswick commercial city, called Greater Moncton into the must visit centre of the Maritimes.

The lead off article called Local's Choice is a weekly profile of what the editors at LocalintheKnow consider to be the most significant event or business organization to be highlighted for the current week. Every Monday morning, there is a new Local's Choice, we invite you to check back and see what this week's novel story is about.

There is more. Each week a different selection of bloggers, writing columns about local people and issues will be highlighted as well as they begin to develop an online readership. Subsequent posts in LocalWeb will introduce these writers and their different perspectives on what it means to be a local living in the Greater Moncton area.

Also there is a digest of local news from many local sources including the unique Community Digest covering boomlet communities of Greater Salisbury, Metropolitan Petiticodiac and the proudly rural Albert County, where the men are men, the women appreciative, and the Moose and deer are somewhat edgy. At least as an expatriate Albert County former resident, that is how the culture has been described to me.

The redoutable Jeannette Hibbert et familia publish the eclectic monthly Community Digest and LocalintheKnow's Local Digest feature will highlight different stories from the little newspaper. You can get a print copy of this rural report and community profile at the Irving BigStop in Salisbury and other variety stores in the area.

For the downtown life and as a refreshing breather on having and making fun in the Arts and Culture community, nothing beats the Mascaret newspaper with its painting on a tabloid page front pages every month. This November issue at 32 pages and full of ...well fun stuff is the most interesting read you can find about living and loving in Moncton.

Speaking of nothing beats Mascaret, the announcement that Brunswick News, aka The Irving Group Of Print Media, have bought "here" magazine, the former hipster weekly newspaper in Saint John and Moncton, leaves the Mascaret facing the combined big guns of Corporate Marquee newspaper and the now incorporated "here" for a run for the crown of being the coolest paper in town for arts, entertainment, environment, and community lifestyles information about local artists and events.

Stay tuned, this is going to be interesting to watch and will make for interesting reading. The home page LocalDigest will feature story excerpts and coverage from Mascaret updated and online frequently. You can get a print copy of mascaret literraly everywhere that serves coffee or convenience items as well as newspapers. Reids
Newstand comes to mind.

There's more to come, as the concept of creating a web-based information utility that becomes Monctonian's first stop for finding relevant information about their city, develops more content.

Localintheknow's editorial mission is to point you to where you want to go to find information about Greater Moncton. This digest of local editorials is added to the look up and search directory to add to your potential for living well as a local, or being a more informed visitor, when in Greater Moncton.

See something that is missing or is important to you? Send us a note and we will see what can be done to include it in localintheknow.

Bookmark www.moncton.localintheknow.com and visit us often. There will always be something new to see and information to learn on the site.

Local In The Know - Everythings Local

LocalWeb is published as an informed guide to using the Web to attract an audience to you business or community organization.

This blog and others like it on this web site offer an unique perspective on what is important to know about for those of us who live a local life in Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview and throughout New Brunswick.

Localintheknow (LITK), is a local information utility designed to make it easy for you to find out everything that you want to know about in your community.

The purpose of the LITK as we call it is to assemble everything that is local to a community and make it easy to search and easy to find.

LocalWeb will introduce you to what is important to know about using the web to learn more and about how to prepare your web site, or blog, which is like a daily diary on steroids for publishing information that your audience may want to know.

We will keep adding content and answer any questions that you may have as we begin a new chapter in community based journalism and information publishing.

I am fond of a veteran politician's definition of national politics as being global in importance, when applied to the Internet and Web of today. He said," All national politics, is local. I say, "that all the global Internet, is Local.......to someone.

The blog is focused on how to use the web to live a better life locally.
