GREATER MONCTON ORGANIZATION FOR YOUNG LEADERS AND ENTREPRENEURS

A new international organization for young people in their 20s an 30s has been launched in the Greater Moncton area.

JCI Greater Moncton is the local chapter of Junior Chamber International, a worldwide federation of young leaders and entrepreneurs.

I think this is a great development for Moncton. In every community that I have ever been in, the Local JayCee's have been a vibrant and active group of young business and social minded people who undertake significant projects. This is going to be a great boost for Greater Moncton in my opinion. Read on and meet the people making this happen here.

JCI Greater Moncton will provide the opportunity for young people to develop the leadership skills, social responsibility, entrepreneurship and fellowship necessary to create positive change in this city and around the world.

“As a young entrepreneur operating a business in Moncton, I was looking to get involved with an organization that is dynamic and that caters to people of my generation,” said the newly elected President of JCI Greater Moncton and owner of Joe Moka Café, Yvan Laviolette.

“JCI appealed to me because there is a need to bring young energetic professionals together in this region. It’s by supporting each other and helping each other to develop our leadership skills that we will make Moncton the city of choice for young people.”

JCI Greater Moncton elected its first executive board on March 2, 2006.

The board’s first task will be to develop a chapter business plan and propose potential activities and initiatives to its membership. Activities will include business development opportunities (e.g. training sessions, guest speakers, networking events), individual development opportunities (e.g. public speaking), as well as community development initiatives (e.g. fundraising for local charities).

“Membership to JCI Greater Moncton is open to anyone in their 20s and 30s,” explains President Laviolette. “You don’t have to be an entrepreneur since our members join for a variety of reasons, including wanting to meet more young professionals who are at a similar point in their careers.”

Since January, networking/social events have been organized bi-weekly. The events are hosted at a member’s place of business where they have the opportunity to profile their products and services.

“We invite everyone who fits the JCI profile to attend one of our events to determine if it’s the right organization for them,” said President Laviolette. “But be warned, JCI is highly addictive!”
